The Trump administration is backing down from its war with Fauci after it became obvious it was backfiring

Fauci for his part had expressed bemusement at finding himself the target of attacks by the White House. Fauci has advised six administrations on disease prevention and control as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and opinion polling has shown him to be one of the US's more trusted voices on the coronavirus.

The Perils of Rushing to Judgment

On April 6, in an essay for the National Review, John Fund and Joel Hay asked the question, Has Sweden Found the Right Solution to the Coronavirus? and concluded it had. They praised Sweden's approach to the novel coronavirus, which included isolation for vulnerable populations but did not include a general lockdown. Fund and Hay boasted that Sweden, up to that point, had only seen 401 COVID-19 deaths.

But the elected officials who matter most in reforming police departments and the criminal justice system work at the state and local levels.
